Can you be a do it yourself traveler and still work with a travel agent?

Teamwork is what it’s all about.

Are you someone that watches Planet Earth or researches different destinations and wished you could go to all the different exotic faraway places? I have always day dreamed about all the magnificent places that I wanted to travel to and always knew that someday I would get to them.

It’s so easy to learn about all these different places with YouTube, Instagram, blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and Google that it’s hard to not dream and plan to go to all these different places. People, especially Millennial’s want to have a unique experience to be able to share it with everyone.

This is where a travel agent comes into the picture, specifically ME (Travel Specialist). There are many of you out there who may think that the travel agent is a dying profession. After all, there’s the internet and I can just book it online! Some feel that when you work with a travel agent you don’t get to plan your trip and it doesn’t become your trip anymore. I can tell you that when my clients decide to work with me, this is their trip. I tell them, this is YOUR trip and not mine. I work with my clients and talk with them so they can visualize the experiences they want to have.

“What do YOU want to experience on your trip? “What does your trip look like in your dreams?” “Based on your research you’ve done, what is your ideal trip?”

These are some of the questions I ask my clients. I know that when you pick a place to travel you have many expectations of your trip. We want you to walk away from your trip feeling like you did everything you dreamed of doing (and more).

It’s inspiring to me when I find the do-it-yourself travelers. After all, that’s what inspired me to start my business. It’s my passion to help other do-it-yourself travelers put their dream vacation together. So many times, I have had these types of people spend many hours researching their trip and just weren’t able to put it all together or experienced problems through the process, that’s where I come in. You know exactly what you want to do and experience on your trip. Now we are going to have a more in depth conversation, because you have more knowledge about the destination you are wanting to travel to. The difference is, your travel professional has the tools and experience to pull it all together and make this dream vacation happen.

Consider working with a travel professional like Julez Travel to help all you do-it-yourself travelers so we can help create the trip of YOUR dreams! We can get together and talk about what your trip looks like and hand craft your travel. Nothing is better than having someone listen to your dreams and encourage you.

Where in the World is Julez Travel? Belize – that’s where!

Have you ever been to Belize? Belize is an amazing country to visit and one of my favorites in the Caribbean. The country is very beautiful and the people are so friendly and inviting, it’s a must visit destination (in my opinion). I have had the incredible chance to visit this country twice (not the last) and stayed in two completely different areas. My first visit was to the small island of Caye Caulker which is a fun ferry ride away from the mainland. Did you know that Belize is on the second largest barrier reef? Caye Caulker is even closer and it has so much to offer! This incredible little island is only 4 miles long and 2 miles wide so you can easily get around without getting lost. There are no vehicles, only golf carts and bicycles. All the roads are sandy dirt roads which are fun to ride along on with your beach bike. Along the main road, you will find many little restaurants, bars and shops. The food on this island was some of the best I have ever eaten (I am a very picky eater), the fish was freshly caught every day and the flavors were incredible and so delicious! There’s not a lot to do on this little piece of paradise except relax, get to know the locals and have some rum punch at the beach bars. You can sit back, listen to music at the split (two islands that were split apart from a hurricane many years ago) and watch all the swimmers, kayakers and soak up the sun while listening to music. The water has so many different colors of blue and it’s crystal clear, it really is the bluest water I have ever seen. Want to get out and take an excursion? No problem, there are many different things you can do, you can either do water excursions or you can take a day trip to the mainland to do some cave tubing, etc. Are you a big snorkeler or diver? If you are this is where you want to go! There is the Ho Chan National Preserve which is right on the barrier reef and the Blue Hole. For me, this has been the most incredible place to snorkel by far. We saw eels, many different types of schools of fish, manta rays, sharks, dolphins and so much more! If you want to swim with the manta rays and sharks (nurse sharks that is) you can also do that (don’t be scared), I did it and it was just exhilarating! You can also take a short ferry ride over to Ambergris Caye which is a bigger island off of the mainland and stay there as well. On this trip, we stayed only on Caye Caulker. This truly was an incredible first trip to Belize which is what made me fall in love with this Country and the reason I had to go back!

Our second trip to Belize was a split between being inland and on the beach. We flew into Belize City, rented a car, and drove through the country till we arrived in Belmopan where we stayed at an amazing, quite, and secluded resort. We were there for 2 wonderful nights and had such a great time. We relaxed and explored the area and even found a place to watch a little football (the Green Bay Packers, of course)! Our last day we took an excursion, hiking up into the rainforest and then repelling down a 300 ft sink hole! It was scary and simply amazing at the same time and would suggest anyone to do this (if you dare). At the bottom of the sink hole it was so much cooler and amazing with all the different caves you could explore. Well worth the walk up and back. After our excursion, we headed to the beach and stayed at another very nice resort in the village of Hopkins which was only 1 ½ hrs from Belmopan. The fun of driving through the country is really getting to see the amazing countryside and how people live. It was absolutely beautiful and the people selling things along the way were so inviting and nice. When we got to Hopkins everything changed from rainforest to beach houses and resorts. Not only was the resort right on the beach, our cabana walked right onto the beach. Nothing like having an amazing view of the beach and ocean right out your front door! We were ready to relax for our next 4 days on the beach. We walked along the beach, swam in the pool and lazed the days away. While we were in Hopkins we had to take another snorkel excursion since we were in Belize, after all we are still on the second largest barrier reef! Now we get to see another part of the reef. The fish, coral and blue water that you see, really is just simply amazing! If snorkeling or scuba diving are what you like to do, I would definitely recommend Belize! Even if it’s not and the blue water and sandy beaches is all your looking for they have that!

Where in the World is Julez Travel?

New York, New York was on of the latest trip we took. Traveling to New York is an experience I think everyone should try (in my opinion). Why, you ask? It’s something that no other city is like. You can walk miles and miles without really going anywhere yet go all around the world. Walking around in Times Square is just unbelievable with all the shops, and building after building that are so tall you can’t believe they could get any taller. Can’t forget to mention the billboards that light up everything. Just when you think you’ve seen everything you turn a corner and there’s another completely different area like the Theatre District which has restaurant after restaurant and one Broadway show after another. Fifth Avenue has all the fancy and crazy expensive shops you know you’ve always wanted to go into, and the cool thing is, here you can and no one will look at you like you don’t belong. Then take a short walk up any one of the avenues and walk around Central Park. What a beautiful park right in the middle of this great big city. You can walk around for miles in this park and probably never see the same thing twice (unless of course you live here). Now it’s time to take the subway! Don’t be scared of the subway (I was at first but not anymore), it’s not scary and it’s a great way to get from one end to the other in a fairly quick and easy way. I found an app that helps you get from one place to the other, the hardest part was figuring out the darn Metro Card. Once downtown there is so much more to see. You have Battery Park, the Statue of Liberty, 9/11 Memorial (quite amazing and a must see), Walls St, Chinatown, Little Italy, and so much more it’s hard to mention everything. Like to shop? Chinatown is a perfect place to go for all those souvenirs you wanted to get at a great price, just be ready for everyone to invite you to shop with them. Hungry you say? Want some fantastic Italian food, check out Little Italy and all their amazing restaurants that have some fabulous food and drinks.

Who doesn’t look for a Stress-Free Vacation?

Who doesn’t look for a Stress-Free Vacation?

Most of the time we are going on our trips to have fun and relax, right? Many times, people stress out so much about the whole planning of the trip that they end up not planning anything at all. That’s where a travel agent comes in!

At Julez Travel, I take many of the trips that I recommend. I have also learned some valuable tips (and tricks) for taking advantage of everything your vacation destination has to offer. I can also warn you of possible delays when dealing with our security-conscious way of traveling today.

Julez Travel is in the business of repeat business.  In other words, I depend on you being happy and referring others to me for travel arrangements.  I can recommend just the right insurance coverage for your trip and you can be sure I am not trying to sell you something you do not need.  This also goes for recommendations on how you spend your hard-earned vacation dollar.

There’s a vast difference between buying an airline ticket and creating a vacation. Finding reliable information can be tricky. Blackout dates, restrictions and hidden fees are not always obvious to the casual consumer and mistakes can be costly. Then there is the process of putting all the pieces together – airlines, hotels, travel insurance, ground transportation, sightseeing – the list can be daunting. A simple phone call or visit with me, your favorite travel agent can help you avoid long, often fruitless hours of searching online.

Just as importantly in the event something does go wrong, I can, and will advocate on your behalf. Delayed and cancelled flights, missed connections, lost reservations, weather emergencies; we’ve seen it all before and handled the problem. Can Siri, Cortana, or Alexa do the same?

Contact me at and let me help you plan your next trip without all the stress.

Where in the World is Julez Travel? Lake of the Ozarks, MO

Where in the World is Julez Travel?

Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri was where my summer trip took us. What an amazing time I had with a group of 13 family and friends. Why go to Missouri? Wondering what there is to do in the Lake of the Ozarks? The Lake of the Ozarks have something for everyone! If you like being on a boat skiing, tubing, floating, or just being in the sun then you will absolutely love this destination. Don’t have a boat? You can rent one if you know how to drive one but if you don’t, that’s ok too! There are plenty of areas around the lake that have a beach so you can hang out or even some of the bars along the lake have swimming pools and a swim-up bar (very cool places to hang out for the day)! You can also rent kayaks, pontoons, jet skis and more. If golfing is what you want to do there are quite a few different golf courses for you avid golfers. If fishing is what you really want to do, this is a great destination to find that big catch and have dinner too!

We did check out the some of the tourist shops while there and they were fun to shop at finding that perfect soveniur. If you really like to shop there is a huge outlet mall (largest in Missouri) where you can shop until you drop!

There are plenty of places to eat. BBQ joints are one of my favorite types of food and the southerners sure do know how to BBQ so it’s well worth finding a good place.

My name is, Julie Arend, Travel Consultant and Owner of Julez Travel. For as long as I can remember, traveling has always been a part of me. My dream is to travel the world, see new places, experience new cultures, and meet new people.

During the long winter months here in the Midwest, my husband, Jeff, and I like to getaway to a warm sunny beach with beautiful turquoise views of the ocean, do some snorkeling, and relax under palm trees with a nice cold drink. I’ve included photos of our recent trip to Belize, Central America, in January. The best part of this trip was the beautiful landscape friendly people, and the amazing dining experiences.

During the summer months, there is nothing better than a good road trip. Colorado is one of my all-time favorite states to visit but there are so many amazing destinations, it’s hard to pick just one. My bucket list of places to go seems to get longer every year.
